Project Summary

Countering Mis- And Disinformation in Digitalised Energy Systems Towards Net Zero (CORNERSTONE for short) is a project that links different strands of work to develop a research agenda at the nexus that explores the complex interplay between misinformation and disinformation, social acceptance and policymaking. The current pilot stage of the project focuses specifically on digitalisation and digital energy technologies as key components of decarbonised energy systems. The project examines news narratives related to Smart Meters, Electric Vehicles and Heat Pumps in 13 broadsheet and tabloid UK newspapers of national circulation.

Dr Zoya Pourmirza

Project Lead

Zoya Pourmirza is Academic Director of Smart Systems and Senior Research Fellow (Cyber Security). She leads interdisciplinary research in Energy System Digitalisation, with particular focus on ICT, cyber security, efficient data communication, Digital Twin, and innovative business model for energy systems.  

Dr Timea Nochta 

Timea Nochta is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Public Administration and Policy and the Institute of Local Government Studies (INLOGOV). Her research focuses on networks and governance in urban policy and implementation in the context of technological change, especially decarbonisation and digitalisation. 

Marianna Karakoulaki 

Marianna Karakoulaki is a PhD Researcher in Political Science and International Studies at the University of Birmingham. Marianna’s professional background is in journalism and communications.  

Helen Orpin 

Helen Orpin is a Project Officer at the School of Computer Science, University of Birmingham.

David Lam
